Mike Edwards Mobile Discotheques 1970 - 1986

Launched in December 1970 during the glam rock period. The early years were spent mostly in dark and dingy pubs in and around Leeds. The Queens at Stourton in Leeds was a great example. Sounds very upmarket. Resident on a Sunday night for around a year, it was a downbeat place where youngsters, mostly well under the age limit came to get drunk.

Rapidly learned that there was little or no income to be made from pub venues. Found a niche by playing a mixture of pop, disco and old tyme / ballroom. The audience age profile rose from16-20 year olds to the over thirties. Venues changed to mostly hotels, company functions and promotions and celebratory parties.

With the success came many many late nights and the decision to leave my full time job with Tesco to run my own business.

Coming soon a few anecdotes and pictures.
